The ultimate horizon of neuroscience: whole-brain structural connectomics, Global Neuronal Workspace ignition, and Tononi’s Integrated Information Theory (IIT, Φ).

The weight transport problem, energy efficiency (20W biological brain vs megawatt data centers), feedback alignment, and neuromorphic architectures.

Brain rhythms: local field potentials, theta-gamma phase-amplitude coupling (PAC), Pascal Fries’ Communication-Through-Coherence (CTC), and phase reset.

Karl Friston’s Free Energy Principle: the brain as a Helmholtz Bayesian prediction engine, precision-weighted prediction errors, and active inference.

The biological reward engine: Wolfram Schultz’s dopamine recordings, Sutton & Barto’s Temporal Difference (TD) learning, and the corticostriatal Actor-Critic.

Primary motor cortex (M1), Churchland’s rotational jPCA dynamics, internal forward models, muscle synergies, and optimal feedback control (OFC).

Spectral sound decomposition, Jeffress delay-line coincidence detection for ITD azimuth localization, and combinatorial sparse odor representations.

The Hubel & Wiesel feedforward model: classical receptive fields, 2D Gabor wavelets, orientation pinwheels, and modern Deep Convolutional Networks.

The mystery of cortical irregularity: van Vreeswijk and Sompolinsky’s balanced state, cancellation of massive inputs, deterministic chaos, and linear response.

The neural GPS: continuous attractor neural networks (CANN), John O’Keefe’s place cells, Moser hexagonal grid cells, and toroidal periodic manifolds.
